ISTI

Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologia dell’Informazione “Alessandro Faedo” (ISTI)

ISTI was constituted in 2002 as a result of a merger between the Istituto CNUCE (CNUCE-CNR) and the Istituto di Elaborazione dell’Informazione (IEI-CNR). Research carried out by the institute has reached an international level of excellence, and the institute also plays an active role in technology transfer to industry. Research fields cover Computer science and related technologies. ISTI actively participates in national and international research collaborations and development programs.

Research funding (13 M€ in 2007, including personnel cost) are obtained from MIUR (65%), European Commission (15%), private entities (6%), and the remaining part by other public bodies. Dr. Claudio Montani is Director of the institute. Additional information can be found at http://www.isti.cnr.it.

The ISTI-HPC, ISTI-NMIS and ISTI-VC labs participate in the project VISITO Tuscany. These labs are responsible, respectively, for the activities related to high performance computing, multimedia information systems and search engines, and 3D models and graphics in VISITO Tuscany. They have a long experience in managing research and development projects at national and international level. Additional information on the research activities and on the projects, in which the three labs are involved, can be found at:

IIT

Istituto di Informatica e Telematica (IIT)

IIT carries out activities of research, assessment, technological transfer and training in the field of Information and Communications Technologies and in the sector of computational sciences. In perfect harmony with the activities of the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union, IIT very naturally and clearly has its sights set on the Internet of the future, both from a modellistic-algorithmic and technological-applicational point of view. The Institute has, in fact, consolidated its know-how in algorithmics and in areas of research and development, such as the “Internet of things” and “Internet of services”. These range from high speed, mobile and pervasive telematic networks, to issues of security and privacy, to innovative Web technologies, but which also include new ICT applications concerning the governance of the Future Internet.
